Understanding Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a common neurodivergent profile that affects how the brain processes written and spoken language. It has nothing to do with intelligence, effort, or capability.
Dyslexic people often think in pictures, patterns, and big ideas. They problem-solve creatively, see connections others miss, and often excel in hands-on, visual, or practical tasks.

Dyslexia is a difference in how someone learns, not a limitation on what they can achieve.
What Dyslexia Can Affect
Dyslexia can vary from mild to more significant, and every individual is different. Common areas impacted include:
- Reading & Writing - reading slowly or skipping words, spelling difficulties, mixing up letters, fatigue from reading for long periods
- Memory & Processing - difficulty remembering sequences (days, instructions, lists), needing extra time to process information, forgetting verbal instructions, short-term/working memory challenges
- Organisation - losing items, struggling with time management, difficulty breaking tasks into steps
But dyslexia also brings enormous strengths:
- creativity
- problem-solving
- visual thinking
- verbal reasoning
- empathy
- spatial awareness
- big-picture understanding
- innovation
